The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attend the Royal Variety Performance
9th December 2010
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium this evening where they were entertained by a host of stars including host Michael McIntyre, Kylie Minogue and Take That.
The annual event raises money for the Entertainment Artistes’ Benevolent Fund.
On their way to the theatre, from their London home Clarence House, Their Royal Highnesses’ car was attacked by protestors, leaving the car with a smashed window and covered in paint. The incident was reported by the media last night as part of their coverage of violent clashes between police and protestors in the wake of the Government’s legislation on student fees.
A Clarence House spokesperson said: "We can confirm that their Royal Highnesses' car was attacked by the protesters on the way to their engagement at the London Palladium this evening. Both their Royal Highnesses were unharmed.”
When asked how she was as she left the London Palladium, Their Royal Highnesses smiled and said: "I'm fine thanks - first time for everything."
When The Prince and The Duchess arrived at the London Palladium they chatted with Kylie Minogue, Take That and N-Dubz, some of the acts that performed for them this evening.
Comedy was provided by John Bishop, Lee Mack, Sarah Millican and host Michael McIntyre. Also performing was Spelbound, the acrobatic winners of Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle and Cheryl Cole.
This morning, a spokesman for Their Royal Highnesses added: “Although we are not able to comment on any of the specifics of last nights incident, Their Royal Highnesses totally understand the difficulties which the police face and are always very grateful to the police for the job they do in often very challenging circumstances.”
