Wing Commander Richard Pattle appointed Master of the Household of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall

16th October 2007

Clarence House is pleased to announce that Wing Commander Richard Pattle will succeed Lieutenant Colonel Sir Malcolm Ross as Master of the Household of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in March 2008.

As Master of the Household, Wing Commander Pattle will be responsible for the overall supervision of The Prince’s and The Duchess’s residences, security matters, logistics, personal and domestic staff, official and private entertaining, and corporate social responsibility for the Household.

Wing Commander Pattle, 38, served as Equerry to The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall from 2004 to 2006. A Royal Air Force helicopter pilot, he has flown on operations in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq, and is currently working at the Ministry of Defence in London prior to leaving the Service. He is married with three children.

Sir Michael Peat, Principal Private Secretary, said today: “I am absolutely delighted that Richard is returning to the Household having been such a successful Equerry. Sir Malcolm has done a marvellous job for Their Royal Highnesses and he will be much missed by everyone, but in Richard we have found the best possible successor.”

Notes to Editors

Sir Malcolm Ross joined Clarence House in 2005 after 18 years in the Lord Chamberlain’s Office at Buckingham Palace. Following his retirement, he will move to Scotland where he is Lord Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright.
