The Prince of Wales will address the World Health Assembly in Geneva
7th May 2006
The Prince of Wales has been invited to address the World Health Assembly on the subject of integrated health on Tuesday 23rd May 2006.
The World Health Assembly is the annual decision-making forum of the World Health Organization‘s (WHO) 192 Member States and is held at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.
The Prince of Wales was invited to be the guest speaker by Dr Lee Jong-wook, the Director-General of the WHO. Previous guest speakers have included Bill Gates and former US President Jimmy Carter.
The Prince of Wales is President of The Prince‘s Foundation for Integrated Health. The Prince believes that the solution to tackling many long term, chronic health conditions lies in a more integrated approach which addresses social and environmental factors and uses proven complementary treatments alongside conventional medicine.
The Foundation works towards an integrated healthy society by improving access to knowledge and services, promoting an understanding of integrated health and supporting safe and effective treatments through regulation, research and training.
As Patron of a number of health charities, The Prince of Wales has seen at first-hand what a difference integrated healthcare has made for many people. His efforts to help people in this field were recognised in 2005 when he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
