Prince William has completed a two-week attachment to the Chief of the General Staff's office in Whitehall

Prince William learns about wider Army role

14th December 2007

Prince William today completed a two-week attachment to the Chief of the General Staff’s office in Whitehall.

The Army devised the secondment to give Prince William, who will one day become Head of the Armed Forces, a wider understanding of the Army’s structure, the role of its senior hierarchy, and its non-operational activities such as recruitment, training and personnel management.

The secondment included visits to a number of training establishments including the Army Recruiting and Training Division, a one-day visit to troops stationed in Germany and visits to Regional Forces and to the Defence Military Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court in Surrey, with his brother Prince Harry. He also spent time at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Whitehall.

As announced on 10th October, Prince William will commence a four-month attachment to the Royal Air Force beginning in January 2008, after which he will then serve on attachment to the Royal Navy.
